Colt 2nd model Dragoon, .44 caliber percussion, grey patina finish, wood grips, “MS”-marked on triggerguard for Massachusetts State Militia, serial #10641. The revolver shows a grey to brown patina finish withfeint traces of case hardening and blue mixed in. Scattered light to moderate erosion and pitting with some scattered areas of slightly heavier pitting, mostly on the barrel and cylinder. The cylinder shows 15-30% cylinderscene with some well defined horses and riders just barely visible USMR that’s feint. Good edges, good markings, complete series of inspections with “B” inspector. Some dings and mars, and a couple screws slightlymarred. Grips fit impeccably and show some even wear with only the faintest partial outline of a cartouche on left, just one edge. The pistol shows all matching visible serial numbers, matching wedge, good bore,good interior. The “MS” marked variation in the Dragoon series is always desirable and experts estimate only 100 to 200 purchased by Massachusetts, and many used during the Civil War.
