Colt 1st Model Square back Navy with wedge over screw fine original early open scroll engraved serial #10 formerly Johnny Woodard and Parsons Collections’. The Navy shows fairly sharp metal surfaces with goodmarkings and some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. The cylinder shows restoration and the Colt was carefully restored by a master gun smith approx. forty years ago. The grips are very good andretain 80% original varnish, all matching serial numbers with a trace of finish mixed in the patina. Only about a dozen original engraved 1st Models are known and are comparable in rarity to an engraved Paterson. Johnny Woodard was the premier collector of engraved 1st Model Navy’s having assembled four from the early 1950’s to 1979 when Little John sold his Navy collection. Number 7 engraved was converted to cartridge andthis may be the earliest extent engraved 1st Model Navy in percussion as we know of no earlier number engraved. Est.;$25,000-$50,000.
