S/N 14754, .45 caliber, 7 ½" barrel, original nickel finish, “275. M D” stamped on left frame flat, signifies purchase by Canadian Department of Military and Defense, correct 2-piece hard rubber grips, circa 1885. CONDITION: Bore is excellent, 95% nickel finish overall, fire blue on back of hammer and trigger, grips are excellent, excellent markings, excellent mechanically.

In 1885 Canada ordered 1001 Colt 1878 DA revolvers. These revolvers were used by a mounted militia raised for duty during the Riel Rebellion in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. All were 7 ½", nickel, hard rubber grips, .45 caliber. They were also used by Canadian contingents in the South African Boer War.
