Colt 1862 police .36 caliber revolver with experimental 2-3/8” plugged barrel showing German silver front sight mounted in post with ramrod hole factory plugged. Serial #2379. Refer The Book of Colt Firearms bySutherland and Wilson, page 174, illustration B. The barrel shows 60-80% original thinning blue drifting at the edges. The cylinder shows 40-60% original blue also drifting at the edges with bright blue in the flutes andgood patent date. The frame shows 80-90% case hardening that is muting slightly, but still very colorful. The hammer shows a like amount of case hardening with some bright areas also. The straps show 40-60% darkenedoriginal silver. The varnish wood grips are very good plus to near fine with just some minor marks and 90% varnish. The action is crisp, the interior is excellent, all visible serial numbers are matching. A documentingletter from Mike Clark, noted dealer and expert, discusses the originality of this revolver and the provenance as being obtained from Dennis Lovett, well known Colt Collector and Author.
