Colt 1861 Navy revolver, .36 cal. percussion, later scroll engraved, darkened silver plate, ivory grips, serial #5636 The engraving, although hand cut is not genuine to-the-period, and it is our opinion that the engraving is 20th century, although our consigner bought it for original engraving a decade ago. The pistol shows considerable darkened silver plate that has turned black and at least 50% remains, with no recentcleaning, some light to moderate pitting and erosion. The cylinder shows about 75% restored scene; the grips show some large chips and losses and do not fit well and may be from another Colt revolver. The pistol is cased within a relined old correct style box. The quality of the relining is excellent and is hard to detect except the partitions are slightly too thick and not tapered correctly. An excellent and original William Read Boston label is glued into the lid and in fine condition. A Remington-type flask, Navy mold, Eley cap tin, Navy wrench and reproduction skin cartridges are included. The revolver shows matching serial
