Colt 1860 Army revolver .44 caliber percussion, serial number 113487 fully and finely custom engraved and gold inlaid in 19th century exhibition style by Dewill of Liege, Belgium for advanced collector Russell Atkin in the early in the 1960s. This Colt shows fine quality gold figures and raised relief gold scroll with tight banknote engraving similar to the finest 19th-century engraved Colts presented to the czar of Russia, King of Sweden and used as factory exhibition arms. The pistol has been European rust blued and browned and case colored for accent. The barrel address and patent markings are also flush gold inlaid. The grips are carved and checkered burl wood. The pistol is in excellent condition as refurbished at time of engraving. Dewill was one of the top European engravers in his time and a few in Europe could replicate the quality of this work and at today’s exchange rates would estimate the cost of engraving alone at $20,000+ not including the pistol. Est.: $7,500-$15,000.
