Colt 1860 Army ,44 SN: 168845
This is a Colt Commercial Production Model 1860 Army revolver that was manufactured in 1867. The revolver has a three-screw frame and has the yoke cut-outs in the recoil shields. but lacks the one at bottom of the back strap found on Civil War U.S. contract Model 1860 Army revolvers. The hammer spur has bordered knurling. Brass trigger guard, iron backstrap. The one-piece walnut grip. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the one line legend "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-". "COLTS/PATENT" is stamped on the left side of the frame and "44 CAL" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. The rebated cylinder is roll-stamped with the Texas Navy battle scene and "COLTS PATENT No". The edge of the cylinder is roll-stamped "ENGAGED 16 MAY 1843." in small letters. The full serial number, "1688454" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and the back strap. The cylinder is stamped with the partial serial number, "8845". All of the serial numbers match. The front sight blade is missing, the bore is good, strong rifling, some frosting. The finish has turned to a gray/brown patina, markings are clear, except there is an area of pitting on the cylinder obscuring a small portion of the battle scene which is faint. The grips are overall sound except for two small chips on both sides that have been repaired with glue, some scuffs, scratches. There are two notches cut into the left side of the grip, seem period. NRA Condition-Good/Missing Sight. Antique Firearm.
