Colt 1851 Small-guard Navy revolver, .36 caliber percussion, 7-01/2” barrel, strong traces of blue and case hardened finish, varnish wood grips, serial #57493. This gold-rush era Navy shows slight traces ofblue on barrel and cylinder and some good traces beneath ramrod. The barrel address is sharp. The cylinder shows 40-60% scene with engagement date mostly visible on front edge of cylinder. The frame, loading lever, andhammer show 10-20% case hardening within a smoky grey patina. The backstrap and triggerguard show 30-60% darkened original silver plate that is almost black. The varnish wood grips are good to very good with 50-70% varnish, some dings, mars, wear at the edges, a couple of chips, good overall and are a near perfect fit. All matching visible serial numbers, tight action, bright bore, matching wedge. An unabused and farbetter than average early 51 Navy. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
