Colt 1851 Navy revolver, .36 caliber percussion, small guard series, blue and case hardened, varnish wood grips, serial #51096. Only 37 numbers away from 1851 51010, belonging to John Brown, famous abolitionistwho smuggled Sharps rifles and Colt pistols into “Bleeding” Kansas as “Bibles” in crates marked “Beecher’s Bibles”. The revolver remains in very good original condition with 20-30% original blue on barrel thinning anddrifting to a pleasing patina. The barrel shows some minor erosion and pinprick pitting and some marks around the wedge area and edge of wedge. The barrel address is sharp and the edges crisp, the cylinder has drifted to patina with traces of blue, and at least 75-85% of original cylinder scene, clear engagement dates, and lightly visible Ornsby signature. The frame, hammer, and loading lever show 10-20% case hardening drifting toa natural silvery grey. The backstrap and triggerguard show 75-85% darkening original thick silver plate. The varnish wood grips are very good plus to near fine with 80-90% varnish, some minor marks and nicks, wear at
