Colt 1849 Pocket model, .31 caliber percussion, 4” barrel, two-line Hartford address, 6-shot cylinder, serial #200939, original period inscribed “Wm Kidd from Alert Hose Co Clev’d O.” The pistol remains in original very good condition showing 10% original blue on barrel drifting to patina with sharp edges and metal surfaces. The cylinder shows most all the original scene, at least 90%, with 50-70% original blue that is evenly aging and toning. The frame shows 40-60% case hardening. The hammer shows 20% case hardening going dark at the front from firing. The ramrod shows 70% bright case hardening. The backstrap and triggerguard show 30-50% darkened and uncleaned silver with a great patina. The varnish wood grips are very good with 80-90% varnish, some edge wear, some small losses, and evidence of being used for tacking at the bottom of the grip. Some scattered light erosion and pinprick pitting, but generally very good overall. All matching serial numbers, tight action, crisp interior. The pistol has been used but well cared for, and several cylinder pins remain. A very interesting inscription, undoubtedly presented to a fellow fireman by his fire company, which was
