B) Manufactured in late 1905 with the barrel marked "S A/flaming bomb/5-06". This example started life as a .30-03 and was rebarreled to .30-06. The bolt is stamped with the steel lot code "I 3" on the underside of the safety lug. Has the early .30-03 style rear sight leaf with silver accents. Mounted on an early smooth straight grip walnut stock with grasping grooves and a smooth steel buttplate. The handguard does not have spring clips or a sight notch. With a Springfield Armory Model 1905 bayonet dated 1919 and a canvas and leather covered scabbard.

Partially refinished and assembled. The floor plate and trigger guard retain 95% plus of the blue refinish with some scratches and edge wear. The rear sight base retains 50% of the olive green reparkerized finish with scattered minor pitting. The barreled receiver retain traces of the original blue finish with a smooth gray/brown patina on the balance. The bolt is a later replacement. The non-factory replacement stock has been heavily sanded with no cartouche or proof visible. The handguard has a 6 inch long repaired crack along the top. The bayonet is good (does not lock to rifle) and the scabbard is very good.

A) This example was manufactured in early 1905 as a .30-03 and was rebarreled for the .30-06 cartridge in 1908. The barrel is marked "S A/flaming bomb/8- 08". The bolt has the steel lot code "S" stamped on the underside of the safety lug. Mounted on a smooth walnut straight grip stock with a boxed script "C.N./1908" cartouche, grasping grooves, a circled script "P" proof on the bottom of the wrist, a smooth steel buttplate and a handguard without spring clips or a sight notch. With a Rock Island Arsenal Model 1905 bayonet dated 1917 and a leather covered scabbard marked "R.I.A./1907./H.E.K." on the backside.

Good as assembled, traces of the original blue finish remains mostly in the protected areas with flaking and wear overall. There is an artificial smooth brown patina on the balance. The replacement stock is very good with some scattered scratches and dings along with legible cartouche. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet and scabbard are both fine.
