Collection of law man items attributed to Peter Becker Sheriff of Lake County and chief of police of Leadville, Colorado. The collection includes a large and early sterling silver with black enamel chief of police star showing WK Hallmark on reverse and sterling marking. The badge is in good condition and genuine to the 19th-century. We would date this badge about 1880. A photograph of a police officer wearing badge and police belt with billy club with his hand on the shoulder of what appears to be his prisoner dressed for trial measuring approximately 6 1/2” x 4”. An 1885 expense ledger for prisoners addressed to Peter Becker dated December 1885 with prisoners names and daily expense report. Included in this lot is an Illinois watch company large-size pocket watch numbered 276526 with dealer’s name in Leadville, Colorado neatly engraved on the action. The watch is in good condition and running with a few chips on the porcelain face and retains a period silver watch chain with a commemorative Leadville Ice Castle 1894 medallion. The watch includes an ingenious handmade stand to convert pocket watch to a traveling clock or home timepiece. The collection was discovered together and has been kept intact by a major collector. Leadville, Colorado was one of the most active Western mining centers in the 1860s through the turn-of-the-century. Est.: $2,500-$5,000.
