Collection of Papago Indian Hand Woven Baskets
Included in this lot is a collection of three Papago Indian hand woven baskets. The Papago Tohono O'odham (People of the Desert) are located in Arizona and are known for their weaving skills. These baskets feature tight weaving of yucca and bear grass. The smallest basket shows no design around the outside except for a zigzag stitching on the rim of the basket. The medium sized basket shows geometric square patterns around the piece. The biggest basket also shows geometric patterns, but has more red dye on the material instead of the usual brown dye. This basket features a hand woven handle. All of these pieces are in good condition, showing some wear with their age. The smallest basket measures 5" by 3"; the medium basket measures 5 3/4" by 3 1/2"; the largest handle basket measures 6 1/2" x 5 1/8" x 6 1/2".
