This lot contains seven examples of Native American Indian peace medals. The lot includes a 1789 George Washington "Peace and Friendship", a second 1794 George Washington Medal "E Pluribus Unum" on one side, a 1979 John Adams Peace and Friendship medal, an 1801 Thomas Jefferson Peace and Friendship medal, an 1817 James Monroe Peace and Friendship medal, an 1862 Abraham Lincoln Peace and Friendship medal, and lastly, a Rutherford B. Hayes Peace Medal. Presidential Peace Medals were presented to chiefs and elders of Native American tribes to maintain peaceful relations as the U.S. began to obtain new lands across North America. These peace modern peace medals show good to very good condition. The largest one is the Abraham Lincoln medal, which measures 2 7/8" across, and about 1/4" thick.
