Clip point Bowie knife by G. Woodhead showing reclining lion, pommel in coffin shape, pearl gripscales, with original scabbard; blade shows number 36 Howard Street Sheffield address on ricasso. The blade shows somesharpening and use, light to moderate pitting and erosion and general honest wear. The pearl grips are good with some small losses, minor cracks, staining and aging. The pommel is in good condition with well defined lion; the scabbard is good with some folding, split at the edges, normal aging. The button hangar is missing. Woodhead was one of the very best makers of the mid-19th century and the reclining lion is rarer thanhalf horse/half alligator.
