Classic early Western leather saddle by A.J. Davidson, Helena, Montana Territory (M. T.) and so marked on both rear sides of the skirt; the saddle is in overall good condition given its age with wood stirrupsand large saddle horn with the leather covering of the horn separated at front stitching; simple tooling of leather, considerable fleece under lining remains; accompanied by a nicely made wood saddlestand; also with lot is information from “Old Cowboy Saddles & Spurs” by Dan & Sebie Hutchins providing information on A.J. Davidson including his presence in Helena after buying the W.C. Lobenstein Harness &Saddle Shop in 1876; Montana stopped being a Territory in late 1889 when it became a State; with the lot are two original different style A.J. Davidson & Co. letters dated 1890 & 1891 when the Company was inBozeman, Montana; given the markings, this is one of the earliest saddles we have offered for sale at auction in many years and would make a great centerpiece in a Western theme or gun room. Little John's will pay for packing and materials. Buyer pays actual costs of shipping and insurance. All International purchases will be sent to an exporter for shipment to foreign countries. International buyers agree to pay all cost incurred including all shipping, insurance, exporter fees, all custom and duty fees associated with shipment. Post 1898 firearms must be shipped to a Federal Firearms Licensee in your place of residence. All Federal, State and Local Regulations apply and MUST be strictly followed.
