Civil War era imported Cavalry officer’s sword signed on the top back of the blade “Devisime A’ Paris” and this maker was commissioned to make a sword for “The General” (Robert E. Lee). The sword measures 43 ¼” overall with a 37 ¼” blade showing an unstopped blood groove extending almost to the hilt. Also a second narrow blood groove near the top starting 7” from the hilt and ending 7” from the point. The grip is turned silver and plain wire over what appears to be sharkskin that was abluish gray color. The hilt shows a three branch guard with foliate decoration. The blade is plain with no markings other than the name on the top. An original fancy brass scabbard with three hanging rings is included. The entire sword hasbeen Museum high polished to a bright condition. The scabbard shows some dents with normal aging. Est.: $4,000-$8,000
