Civil War U.S. Springfield percussion musket, .58 cal., 40” barrel, full wood stock, iron ramrod, lock and barrel dated 1863. This gun is in overall good condition showing a dark patina on metal surfaces over scatteredpitting, some surface rust toward the muzzle that should be carefully cleaned and oiled; crisp action, good markings, sling swivels, dark bore, overall good wood with a large chip of wood missing on the right side of the butt stock behind the hammer, scattered nicks and mars from storage, some addition wear and losses near the muzzle, two visible inspector cartouches on the left side of the stock above the trigger assembly.
