Civil War U.S. Springfield Model 1863 Rifled Musket
This Model 1863 Type I rifled musket has a blade front sight/bayonet lug and two leaf rear sight on a barrel marked with the "V P eagle head" proofs at the breech (left side). The lock plate is dated 1863 and has the eagle and shield motif next to "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD". The eagle motif is repeated on the bolster. The barrel is also dated 1863. The three barrel bands are stamped "U" and with no visible "US" on the buttplate tang. The barrel bands correctly lack springs. Straight grip stock with a script "EJA" cartouche. It has the tulip head type ramrod.

Condition: Fine. The barrel has been cleaned at one time and now has a mottled gray patina. The remaining surfaces have a smooth dark patina with a gray patina on the lower tang. There some scattered minor spotting and pin point pitting overall, with even pin point pitting on the barrel. The stock is also fine with some minor dings and scratches, along with a few slivers of wood missing from around the ramrod channel. Mechanically excellent.
