Manufactured in 1862, with a 3 screw frame cut for a shoulder stock. The top of the barrel has the one line New York U. S. America address flanked by dashes, "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side of the frame and the Texas naval battle scene on the rebated cylinder. Inspector initial "D" is found on the left side of the barrel just to the right of the wedge screw, "T" on the right side, "D" on the front portion of the cylinder and "T" on the rebated portion, and an "H" behind the trigger guard bow and on top of the back strap. Matching serial number on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and back strap and partial number "3118" on the cylinder, wedge and arbor pin. The grip has a faint visible boxed cartouche on both lower sides. The Colt Model 1860 Army revolver was the primary handgun issued to the Federal cavalry during the Civil War and remained the primary cavalry handgun until the Model 1873 Cavalry revolver was issued to the regular cavalry regiments in 1874. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, "Blue with Brass Plate" finish, grip as "Not Listed" and that it was 1 of a shipment of 1,000 shipped to the Commanding Officer, Major F.D. Callender, St. Louis Arsenal, St. Louis, Mo. On November 7, 1862.

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 40% original blue finish with a gray patina on the balance. There is some minor pitting. The cylinder has a gray patina with minor pitting and most of the scene visible. The frame shows 30% original case colors with some minor pitting and a gray patina on the balance. The back strap has a gray patina with a small amount of minor pitting. The trigger guard has a light aged patina. The grip is very good with faint cartouches and some lower edge wear and overall some minor nicks and dings. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
