Manufactured on contract by the U.S. Government in 1862. The revolver has the three screw frame cut for a shoulder stock and iron back strap. The top of the barrel has the standard one line New York address, with "COLTS / PATENT" on the left side of the frame. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas naval battle scene and stamped with two inspector initials and the partial serial number (2765). Inspector initial "H" also found on the bottom of the grip, top of the back strap and on the brass trigger guard. Matching serial number on barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap, with the partial serial number, "2765", on the cylinder and a mismatched wedge (1774). Fitted with an original oil finished walnut grip stamped with a clear cartouche on each side.
BBL: 8 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 44 percussion
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 62765
Condition: Very good. The revolver has a smooth untouched dark brown patina, with some overall scattered minor spotting. The trigger guard has a smooth darkened aged patina. Much of the cylinder scene remains. The grip is very fine with correct raised feathered wood grain, lightly scratched in letters on the left side, a few minor chips and a few small areas of white paint residue. The cartouches are excellent. Mechanically needs work as the hammer does not hold at the full cock position and the cylinder does not rotate when the hammer is cocked. This U.S. Civil War Colt Model 1860 revolver truly has that distinctive out-of-the attic appearance and would add to any Civil War or Colt collection very nicely!
