Civil War Spencer carbine with unaltered 21” barrel in .52 caliber, serial number 38936 near several known guns issued to 1st Michigan cavalry. The 1st Michigan was commanded by George Armstrong Custer for aperiod during the Civil War. This carbine shows an even dark brown patina with some traces of blue mixed in the natural metal finish. There is some pitting, light to moderate scattered rust and erosion, legibleaddress, and a good stock showing many scratches, dings, mars, dents and normal battle use. The original magazine is retained and the patina matches well. The front sight is a period added oversized large blademounted in the original base. The action works well and the bore is fair with some rough areas. The carbine retains all original small parts except slings swivel removed. A good gun for the collector who likes the outof the attic look. Est.: $1,000-$2,000.
