Civil War Sharps New Model 1863 Carbine
This is a late production New Model 1863 Carbine made without a patch box. Manufactured from 1863 to 1865, this carbine is fitted with a sling bar and ring, Lawrence patent folding rear sight graduated to 800 yards. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the three line address and "NEW MODEL 1863" behind the rear sight. The left rear flat is marked with the inspection mark "W". The left side of the frame is marked with the two line Sharps patent marking and the lock is marked with the two line Sharps and Lawrence patent date markings. The sling bar base is marked with the letter "W". The rear sight base is marked with the Lawrence patent marking. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with two faint cartouches on the left wrist and carbine buttplate.

Condition: Fine. The barrel has 30% blue with the balance a smooth mottled brown patina. The remaining parts have a smooth mottled gray patina with much of the original casehardening pattern remaining and some light pitting on the lever. The wood is also fine retaining most of the period applied varnish and showing some scattered minor dents and scratches. The forearm has a repaired long crack. Clear markings. Mechanically excellent.
