Approximately 20,000 of these unique revolvers were manufactured from 1861 to around 1865. Approximately 12,000 were purchased under government contracts and the remaining were civilian sales. The frame top strap is marked "SAVAGE R.F.A. Co. MIDDLETOWN. CT./H.S.NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17 1856/JANUARY 18 1859. MAY 15 1860". The unique action functions with a lever and a trigger. The lever has a loop for the middle finger. When the lever is pulled back the cylinder turns and the hammer is cocked, the lever is released and the trigger is pulled to fire the weapon. Fitted with smooth grips that are numbered to the gun and stamped "H" on the bottoms.
BBL: 7 1/8 inch octagon

Gauge: 36 percussion

Condition: Very good plus. The revolver retains 25% original blue finish with the balance a crisp smooth brown-gray patina. The trigger, lever and hammer retain traces of original case colors. The grips are very fine with sharp edge fit and some scattered minor handling marks. Action needs functions, but is very stiff, quite possibly by packed grease in the mechanism.
