This is an example of a martially inspected Remington New Model Army Transitional Revolver. Transitional New Model Army Revolvers have been observed within the 10,000 to 22,000 serial number range. The revolver has the two line patent date/address barrel marking without "NEW MODEL": "PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A.". The front sight is the early production cone sight of the 1861 model. Single letter inspection marks (G,A,S) are stamped on most of the components. The left grip panel has an inspector cartouche. The barrel, grips and cylinder are numbered to the gun. The New Model Army Revolver was one of the major handguns of the Civil War and was also the last of Remington's 44 caliber percussion revolvers.
BBL: 8 inch octagon
Stock:
Gauge: 44 percussion
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 19067
Condition: Fine. The revolver retains 40% original blue finish (mostly on the barrel and loading lever) with the balance a smooth brown patina showing some minor spotting near the muzzle. A protective coating has been applied to the cylinder and frame. The grips are also fine with some scattered minor handling marks and a lightly visible cartouche. Mechanically functions but needs work as cylinder does not always rotate when hammer is cocked.
