Pin front and groove rear sights, with the top barrel flat marked "E. WHITNEY / N. HAVEN". Matching numbers on the loading lever, barrel and inside the grip panels. The left side of the barrel at the breech and the left side of the frame ahead of the cylinder are marked with a martial inspection mark "H", the trigger guard is marked with an "S" and the cylinder is roll engraved with the eagle shield, naval engagement and lion motif. This revolver is a 3rd type with the six safety notches machined on the rear of the cylinder and the Colt or "wedge" style loading lever latch. Smooth two piece oil finish walnut grips, with military unit or rack numbers "9" and "945" stamped on the left panel.

Condition: Very fine, with 70% plus of the bright original high polished blue finish, showing high edge wear and areas of smooth gray patina. Minor flash pitting is visible on the cylinder. The trigger guard retains 95% original silver finish with wear limited to the high edges and the silver beginning to darken with age. Grips are very fine, with a few small minor dings, chips, and some scattered overall handling marks. The half-cock notch needs adjustment, otherwise mechanically functions fine.
