Manufactured by Richardson & Overman of Philadelphia with a total production of about 12,700 in the 50 caliber. The rear of the lock is marked with the Gallager patent date and the Richardson & Overman address over the serial number. The front sight is a fixed pinched blade and the rear two leaf folding. There is a saddle ring bar and ring mounted on the left stock wrist which has a clear cartouche. Stock has a patch box. The Gallager saw extensive service during the Civil War including cavalry units from Ohio, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Condition: Very fine as arsenal refinished. The receiver and patch box retain 50% of the nitre blue. The barrel retains 70% blue finish thinning to a brown. The stock is very fine with the exception of "HJ" lightly carved on the left side and some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
