Blade front and 3-leaf rear sights, with "J.S.D." at the breech and the 2-line patent marking on the lever. The lock plate is marked "J.H.MERRILL BALTO/PAT JULY 1858,/APL.9. MAY 21-28-61" under the bolster, eagle/shield marked in front of the hammer and "1863." to the rear. Matching assembly numbers on the lever components. Smooth stock, with single barrel band, a pair of cartouches around the saddle ring bar, straight wrist and a "U.S." marked brass buttplate.

Condition: Very good, showing a gray patina with patches of brown and scattered handling marks. Stock is very fine, with fine original raised grain, crisp cartouches, inspector marks and the balance showing pressure dents and a few minor scuffs. Half-cock needs adjustment, otherwise mechanically fine.
