Civil War Era Tower Marked Percussion Musket Dated 1861 with Confederate Anchor Marking and Bayonet

The lock plate is marked with a large crown behind the hammer and "1861/TOWER" is stamped ahead of the hammer. Rear left side of the barrel is marked twice with the number "25" and three British proofs. Equipped with a ladder rear sight (elevation bar is missing). A bayonet lug is mounted on the front barrel band. Full length straight grip stock with brass trigger guard and buttplate. The flat buttplate is marked with the number "2333" on the tang. Comes with a saber bayonet marked "FH" inside an oval on a ricasso and the number "2333" on the pommel. A "JS" over an anchor is stamped on the stock behind the trigger guard. The anchor stamp was applied as an export stamp for fireams purchased by the Confederate government. English Tower rifled muskets are known to have been exported to the Confederacy during the American Civil War with this example being dated 1861.

Very good. The musket has a smooth crisp dark patina with spotting overall. The stock is fine with some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically fine.
