The top of the barrel is stamped with the three-line address and "NEW MODEL 1863" with R.S. Lawrence adjustable ladder rear sight, Sharps and Lawrence patent markings on the action and saddle ring bar with ring. Smooth straight grip stock and forearm with single barrel band and crescent buttplate. The stock is without markings. Included is a letter from Michael B. Landon stating that this carbine was used by his great-great grandfather during the Civil War. Michael Landon received the carbine from his grandfather, Alfred M. "Alf" Landon, the 26th Governor of Kansas from 1933 to 1937.

Very good. The carbine has a mottled brown-gray patina. The wood is good showing hard use with chipping along the grain and a couple hairline cracks. Mechanically fine.
