Chippewa Strike-a-Lite Bag w/ Quilled Striker 19th
The lot features a beaded Indian tanned hide flat strike-a-lite bag with iron striker having Indian tanned hide with quillwork all attributed to the Chippewa Native American Indians of the 19th Century. This late 1800’s piece shows an Indian brain tanned hide construction bag with sinew and trade thread sewing holding long red ocher dyed fringe and glass trade seed beadwork in a floral pattern on both sides. The beadwork shows colors of semi-transparent, black, red and orange with some being faceted. The bag shows an original top strap and a scalloped cut edge. The bag is paired with a blacksmith hand-forged iron striker having a forged loop and stamped vine pattern being attached with an Indian tanned tab and tie strap which is beautifully adorned with porcupine quillwork. The quills are in natural dyed colors of orange, light blue / lavender and natural cream. The bag itself measures 11”L without the top tie strap which is approximately 10”L. The striker iron is 3”L and overall the striker and hide tab with ties is 11”L.
