Designed by Charles A. Bailey in 1899 and patent assigned to J. & E. Stephens Co., of Cromwell, Conn., Chief Big Moon is in all original condition with most of the paint missing. The sides of the base retain some sort of brown with a sort of white or silver raised design that include a pappoose, tomahawks, peace pipe, Indian Chief bust, the name "Chief Big Moon". The top part of the base representing woodland has flowers, a sort lf lake with ducks, lilies and leaves. The large frog is intact, a squaw figure has long hair and she is cooking a fish over a campfire with a tepee in the background. The condition is all original, no overpainting or cleaning done, and most of the paint is worn away leaving the relief castings. The only missing part appears to be bank base coin opening area. This bank has descended through an old Connecticut family for at least 3 generations and is being offered for sale with no reserve.
