The lot features an original Cheyenne Native American Indian Warrior knife dating to circa 1850’s. The knife was collected by the owner, noted collector Gregory Powell, in 1985 from an antique store in Leavenworth, Kansas called the Everything Shop. The store was owned by Joshua Parks, a half Cherokee Indian man, who would find his collections at the estates of mostly the early families of African Americans who lived there from the Free Stater days of slavery. The woman stated that the knife was collected by her relative, a soldier from Fort Leavenworth, when he was sent west with a regiment in the mid 1860’s to protect the Pacific Railroad. The knife shows a large bowie drop point pattern having an iron blade with one-piece solid wood handle showing a unique outward carved pommel grip end. The grip is secured with four copper pins. The piece shows a deep patina from age and use. The knife measures overall 15 5/8”L with a 9 5/8”L blade.
