Cheyenne Keyhole Quilled & Beaded Hide Moccasins
This is an excellent set of buckskin hide full size moccasins with the iconic "Keyhole" pattern in quillwork and beadwork with quillwork wrapped horsehair pinwheel, from the Cheyenne Native American Indians dating to the mid-20th Century. The set shows a deer hide buckskin and leather hide construction with a nice yellow coloring and shows the traditional Keyhole or Key Hole pattern on the foot. The keyhole is done in porcupine quill quillwork with purple, yellow and red dyed color on natural cream having a early period correct glass trade seed petit beaded border in Cheyenne pink and at the center a round medallion pinwheel crafted from porcupine quills wrapped around small bundles of horsehair, an old scarcely seen technique. The combination of quillwork, beadwork and horsehair wrapped quillwork medallions on a nice buckskin hide leather full size moccasin truly makes this a nice set. Overall well preserved set with supple soft hide and little to no bead and quill loss with vivid colors. Large long hide leather tongues. Measures overall 9 7/8"L soles that are 3 7/8"W with the ankle being 3.5"H, the tongue is 5"L.
