Cheyenne Ghost Dance c. 1890 Beaded Club
The lot features an interesting steer horn beaded dance club attributed to the Cheyenne Native American Indians of Wyoming during the Ghost Dance movement of 1890. Ghost Dance artifacts from the Ghost Dance movement are scarce with few examples in museums and private collections. The style of the club with split horns, trade clothe warps and beaded handle was first documented by Mooney in the 1965 Ghost Dance book and an illustration from the book is included in the pictures. The club shows a hide wrapped handle being covered in typical linear Cheyenne design in a mixture of chalk white and sky padre light blue with “crazy” multi-colors through, a unique attribute. The club shows small strips of fringe cut Buffalo hide attached and a fringe wrap hanging down of the bottom gripping area. Overall the piece measures 26 inches long by 13 inches wide.
