This is an exceptional authentic scarce Cheyenne Corn Husk bag dating to circa 1890's. The bag shows an immensely rare large size with a rich coloring and fine condition. The bag has geometric patterns along both sides in a polychrome mineral pigment dyed Germantown yarn (a very rare addition). The bag shows a traditional very tight weave using the corn husk fibers and dyed natural organic and mineral dyes. One side shows three powerful symbol sets of arrows or arrow fletching in red green, blue, yellow with the other side showing a unique pattern of squares of blue with a yellow center having a cross or storm red center motif set off by six tepee or arrow like symbols at the top. The piece is from the King Saddlery Museum in Sheridan, Wyoming and was part of the Otto Ernst collection (the piece has the round leather museum tag that has been documented on Otto Ernst items from the King Saddlery Museum). Otto Ernst would purchase items from the Native American Indians and then offer them in his Saddlery catalog. This is possibly the largest and finest corn husk bag from the Cheyenne Indians ever brought to public sale. Measures 17.75" x 25".
