Chaffee-Reese U.S. 1882 Magazine rifle, .45-70 cal., 28” round barrel, re-blued finish, full length wood stock, (this model was not serial numbered); in overall good condition as re-finished, crisp action, fair to good bore withwhat appears to be a couple spots of pitting that may clean; stock was broken at wrist and repaired; “EAVES” stamped on both sides of the butt stock and inspector’s cartouche on left side of butt stock “SWP/1884” on upper left side near buttplate. Per Flayderman’s, only 753 produced by the Springfield Armory in 1884; cartridges fed thru a trapdoor in the butt; with U.S. marked bayonet displaying considerable blue finish. (Antique).
