This lot features an over one-hundred-year-old ceiling fan manufactured by Century Electric Company of St. Louis, MO dating to circa 1912 to 1915. The piece was recovered from an early period Butte, Montana residence and is truly a testament to the historic copper mining history. This beautifully detailed fan features dark wood blades with ornamental cast iron crescent moon shaped brackets, an elegantly styled urn shaped oil cup, and an ornamentally styled cast iron motor housing that turns with the fan blades. Period literature claims this model could move more air "than five 16" Oscillating desk fans." This fan's motor hums, but does not spin the blades. The fan's dimensions are, 27" top to bottom; 24" fan blades--60" tip to tip; and a 12" diameter motor housing. The fan shows the original oval tag that is marked, “Century / Single Phase Ceiling Fan / Manufactured by Century Electric Co. / St. Louis, MO. / NO. 37280 MODEL: 172 / VOLTS: 110 CYCLES: 50”. The top of the ceiling fan shows a wonderful Art Nouveau / Art Deco styling and is marked with raised lettering with the manufacture and patent date of 1900. This is in good solid condition and would be a prime candidate for restoration.
