The lot features an unusual and unique skullcracker (skull cracker) war club collected from the Central Plains region and dating to the 19TH Century. The Plains Native American Indian war club features a green painted stone head measuring 6 1/2 inches wide and also shows a long haft covered in a wrap of early tarnished telegraph like wire. The war club features an artfully beaded band over the top of the stone head, securing it in place. There is a small fringe cut wrap at the base of the wood wire wrapped haft with old trade clothe tied on. These longer war clubs were often used on horseback, in direct combat due to the longer hafts allowing a further reach. Many of these war clubs were later decorated and used as dance objects during the Ghost Dance and Reservation Periods. The piece shows a good condition and is a nice example of an early style war club. Measures overall 25.5” long.
