Caucasian flintlock pistol of good quality, circa early 19th century. Signed in block letters on lockplate similar to Cyrillic, measures 15-3/4” from muzzle to end of butt. Approx. .70 caliber smoothbore, showing aTurkish style barrel with canon muzzle and Damascus pattern, raised chiseled decoration, and small maker’s cartouche at center. The lock is made in English style with waterproof pan and is nicely engraved with reinforcedhammer. The stock is a light colored fiddle-back walnut, of the type found in the Caucuses near Turkey. The triggerguard is made in an English style with pineapple finial that is nicely engraved. The backstrap shows good quality gold Damascene florals. The sideplate is mideastern style engraved with rosette and leaves. The pistol shows bone inlays along the top are of the grip and a marine ivory forend cap. The buttcap isforged iron with traces of original gold gilt, mounted with a small swivel. The pistol stock was made in two pieces. The stock shows some small losses and the pistol has been lightly cleaned in modern times. A high
