Cast naval brass canon, collected by noted arms collector C.W. Slagle in the 1950’s, wreck off of Costa Rican reefs. C.W. Slagle retained this canon for nearly 50 years until sold by him to a close friend and collector, to whom he recanted this oral tradition. The tube measures approx. 35”, is nicely turned at muzzle and caskibel. The touch-hole is over-enlarged and may have been spiked. The bore measures 1-3/8” (internal dimensions). We would date the canon approx. 1550 – 1750, and is somewhat crudely sand-cast, possibly in the New World. There are no identifying marks. Est: $3,000 - $6,000
