Cased pair of dueling/target pistols signed Mortimer Edinburgh, in very good plus original condition. The pair measure 17-1/4" overall with 10-1/2" octagon barrels of approx. .52 caliber smoothbore. The pair arehalf stocked in good quality walnut that has a nice grain and show wide checkering at the wrists. The barrels show 75-85% original brown and striped finish with some new rust and erosion on the forward 6" of the barrels, some of which may clean. The locks, tangs, and hammers show 80-90% original bright case hardening that is only slightly dulled with a few areas of spotting. The triggerguards show 70-80% original bright blue. Thetriggerguard plate and buttcaps show 75-85% case hardening. The stocks are very good plus to near fine with a couple of minor scratches, marks, normal aging, and at least 80-90% varnish. The pair are contained within their original to the period velvet lined parition style case showing full trade label in the lid which reads "Thomas Elsworth Mortimer Gun and Pistol Manufacturer 97 George St. Edinburgh, late 34 St. James St.
