Cased matched pair of flintlock pistols by Wilkison of Edinburgh, .64 cal., 7-1/8” octagon barrels, brown finish, engraved lockplates, hammers, tangs, trigger guards and ramrod ferrules, checkered wood stocks, flared brass tipped wood ramrods, inlaid silver plaques on back of grips with period engraved “SURSUM over a knight’s arm holding an arrow with the initials below “MBH”. This pair of high quality flintlock pistols are both in finely matched condition showing the majority of their original muted finish on the barrels and lockplates, considerable bright blue on the trigger guards, crisp actions, sharp markings and very good to fine wood stocks with some old marring to the butts from use as a tacking device at one time and other old small mars to the left sides of the pistols from handling and storage. The case is in overall very good, uncleaned condition showing normal wear to the exterior and a brass plaque in the lid that is unadorned; the interior lining appears original with the majority of a maker label, “W. Peacock Gun Maker. 26 Duke Street Grosbenor Square, London, From Mr. Joseph Manton’s”. There are some wear spots and some fraying to small parts of the lining with the usual compressions where the guns and accessories sit but otherwise the rest is good; some small losses to wood air seal, both wood lids for the covered compartments retain their ivory pulls, one with a small old chip; there are two lead balls and a spare flint in one compartment; accessories include an iron single cavity bullet mold marked “5” and an unmarked brass powder flask in good condition with extra compartment in the bottom for bullets. A fine pair of Scottish flintlocks for the discerning collector. Est.: $10,000-$20,000.
