Cased Walker 'Brevette' w/ English Proofs
Well crafted period copy of the iconic Colt Walker percussion single action revolver chambered for .44 caliber ammunition. In their multi-year study Roy Marcot & Ron Paxton, authors of the book "Colt Brevette", only found three period copies of the Colt Walker. Making this cased example an extreme rarity, perhaps the one known. It features a 9 1/8" part octagon barrel, brass blade front sight, 'v' notch rear sight cut into the hammer, loading lever with 1849 style latch(though provisions for the Walker style latch are present), non-fluted six shot cylinder with oval stops & no observed scene, smooth thin trigger, brass square back trigger guard, knurled hammer spur, iron backstrap and one-piece walnut grip. The barrel is stamped "ADDRESS SAMl COLT NEW-YORK CITY" on the top reading toward the muzzle and "US/1847" on the right side of the lug. No serial numbers have been found but the London proof marks "[Crown]/GP" & "[Crown]/V" are present on the left side of the barrel and in between the cylinder stops. Includes a locking wood presentation case with purple velvet French fitted interior which houses a "COLT.S PATENT." marked copper & brass powder flask, "COLT'S PATENT" marked two cavity .44 cal bullet mold, "ELEY BROs/LONDON" embosses #1 cap tin, and functional key. Revolver displays an aged patina with lightly mottled tones of grey & brown and exhibits scattered pitting throughout. The triggerguard screw forward of the trigger is too long and will interfere with the cylinder if screwed in all the way and the barrel wedge utilized part of a toothpick as a tensioner. Action is in good working order with two clicks, the bore shows scattered pitting & rust with visible rifling, markings are good and the wood grip is very good. Condition in NRA Good to Very Good. ***Antique Firearm***
