Cased Pair of Gold Inlaid French Chenard Marked Dueling Pistols -A) Cased Engraved French Dueling Pi
A) This is a matching pair of French Dueling pistols which feature a dove tailed blade front sight and notched rear sight mounted on the barrel tang. The hammer and rear of the lock are engraved with a broad leaf design with a similar pattern on the barrel tang. The lock is gold inlaid "Chenard / a Nantes". The left side plate is engraved with simple patterns and is in the shape of two horses. The trigger guard is equipped with a finger spur engraved with floral and geometric designs and an engraved decorative finial. The trigger is adjustable and the pistol is mounted with a walnut stock with a diamond shaped scale pattern on the grip area, carved forend with leaf pattern, gold oval thumb shield and a shell pattern cover on the cap compartment on the butt. The pair are complete in a brass accented wooden case with green fitted lining with the following accessories: a wooden cap container with screw on lid, wooden mallet, an iron bullet mold, screwdriver with wooden handle, round lead bullets (approximately 18), cleaning rod, bore brush and powder flask. Some of the compartments do not have the correct accessories.

Condition: Good. The barrel has a smooth silver gray patina and shows signs of some cleaning. The remaining surfaces have a smooth gray patina. The stock is very good. There is a repaired minor crack on the upper left side of the forend and a sliver absent on the upper right side, otherwise there are a few minor dings and dents, and crisp pattern on the grip. All of the gold inlay remains on the lock and the engraving remains crisp. The action is fine. The case is good with a repaired and minor crack on the lid and an area on the lid that shows a number of small scratches. The lining is fair with some minor contact wear and moderate staining associated with age. The accessories are all good or better.

Condition: Good. The metal surfaces have a mottled gray and brown patina with a few small areas of minor oxidation on the barrel. All of the gold inlay on the lock remains. The stock is very good with scattered minor dings and dents, with a crisp pattern on the grip. The engraving is clear. The action is excellent.
