Manufactured in 1855 the first year of production. This Model 2 Root Revolver is marked "COLT'S PT./1855" followed by "ADDRESS COL./HARTFORD CT U.S.A." with the pointing finger and Maltese crosses on the top barrel flat. The Cabin and Indian fight scene rolled engraved cylinder is marked "COLT'S PATENT/No 817". Matching numbers on butt, barrel and cylinder. The wooden case is lined in velvet and has the following accessories: double face ealge shield powder flask, two cavity brass bullet mold marked "COLT'S/PATENT" on the sprue, an unopened Goldmark's percussion cap tin and approximately 14 round lead balls.

Condition: Fine. The revolver has a smooth gray patina with the frame retaining 40% original blue finish. There is some minor flash pitting on the cylinder. The loading lever has a smooth silver gray and the hammer has a smooth dark patina. The cylinder scene is 95% visible and the barrel marking is crisp and clear. The grip is fine with some lower edge wear and some minor handling marks with half of the original varnish remaining. Mechanically fine. The case is good with a minor crack on the lid, a repaired crack on the bottom (some time ago) and a few minor handling markings. The faded lining shows some contact wear and is split on the bottom where the repair was done. The flask and mold are very good.
