Cased Factory Engraved Carved Ivory Stocked Sharps Model 2A Four Barrel Pepperbox Pistol with Access
Manufactured between 1859 and 1874. The sides of the frame feature nice floral scroll engraving, with a punch dot background and a simple double line border on the breechblock. The breech ends of the barrels have the same pattern, extending a bit further forward on the top barrels. The butt has a simple line and shell design. The backstrap has a scallop border with a simple line design in the center. The left side of the frame is marked "C. SHARPS / PATENT 1859" and the right side "C SHARPS & Co. / PHILADA, PA". The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrels and on the butt. All parts have been silver plated and the pistol is fitted with the bust of a medieval warrior relief carved on the left side and smooth on the right side. Complete in a wooden case with brown velvet lining, a covered compartment with ivory pull, brass cleaning rod and barrel shaped ivory container.

Condition: Very fine. The barrels retain 40% original silver plating with some flaking, and darkening with age. There is also a small amount of minor pitting and some smooth gray patina on the left side. The frame retains 80% original silver plating with minimal edge wear and some darkening with age. The grips are fine with the original carving showing heavy wear, a few fine age cracks and an aged attractive caramel patina. The markings and engraving are clear. The mechanics are excellent. The case is good with a repaired lid, some dents on the exterior and some moderate contact wear on the interior. The accessories are very good.
