The Slocum was a work-around of Smith & Wesson's possession of Rollin White's patent on bored-through cylinders and was manufactured from 1863 to 1864. The chambers are individual components that slide forward over the ejector rod for loading and unloading. This example has a smooth rounded butt ivory grip with the left panel having a raised carving of a bearded Zouave. The silver plated frame features scroll work on the sides behind the cylinder and behind the hammer, with engraved borders on the sides, top and backstrap. The top of the barrel is marked "B.A.Co PATENT APRIL 14th 1863". Matching "72" assembly number on the underside of the barrel, rear of the cylinder and right side of the checkered spur trigger. In a fine hardwood American style case with gray felt lining, four compartments and a partial box of Eagle Metallic Cartridge brand 32 S&W Rimfire ammunition. The marbled black and white cardboard ammunition box has a red label and J. H. Lau & Company agent markings (active to 1916).
