Cased Engraved Pair of Edward Dodson Marked Percussion Pistols A) Engraved Edward Dodson Percussion
This matched pair of Edward Dodson percussion pistol feature blue screw on octagon barrels engraved "DODSON LOUTH" on the top flat and with a cross scepter proof on the lower left flat. In addition the other pistol is marked with the number "1", on the bottom barrel flat and bottom of the frame. The German silver frame has light floral scroll engraving. The sides of the hammer had light scroll engraving and the upper portion is engraved in a fish motif. The muzzle of the barrel has a feather design. The bottom of the frame is marked with a crossed scepter proof. Post front and notch rear sights, folding trigger and fitted with a one piece checkered walnut grip with German silver thumb oval. Edward Dodson was a gun maker from 1840 to 1857 in Louth County. The pair is complete in a walnut case with green baize lining. There is a brass disk inset in the lid and brass corner protectors and reinforcements. The label affixed to the inside of the lid is a computer generated copy. (consignor info). In the case is a nickel Dixon oiler, wooden handled screwdriver, nipple wrench and ramrod with jag, nickel powder flask, empty Eley Bros. cap tin, bullet mold and approximately 13 lead balls.

Condition: Fine as period refurbished. The barrel retains most of the dull brown finish. The hammer has a smooth gray patina. The barrel is off line a bit when tightened. The grip is also very fine with a few minor dents and dings and very crisp checkering. The engraving is clear and crisp. The action is excellent. The case is very good with a few minor scratches and dents on the exterior and some minor contact wear on the lining. The accessories are all very good.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains most of the dull brown blue finish. The hammer has a smooth gray patina. The barrel is also a bit off line when tightened. The lower rear of the grip has three minor cracks, otherwise there are a few minor dings and handling marks, and crisp checkering. The engraving remains crisp. The action is excellent.
