Deep relief Germanic vine/leaf scroll engraved scalloped frame box lock action with game scenes and 2 gold inlaid woodcocks on right side, two quail on left, a hunting dog on the bottom, and two quail on the trigger guard. Has cocking indicators, side clips, Greener type cross bolt, double triggers and tang safety. Rear portion of barrels are engraved with the same relief design and marked "WITTEN EXCELSIOR STEEL". The rib is mark in gold "CHARLES DALY DIAMOND QUALITY". Water table is marked "PRUSSIA" on each side, with serial number and proof marks, and the barrel flats are marked with various proofmarks, matching serial number and "EXCELSIOR / WITTEN". Also marked "Hal(Linder)" over crossed pistols. Chambers are 2-3/4 and choked modified/cylinder, with ejectors. Mounted with a checkered splinter forearm with a horn forend and engraved latch assembly and knuckle, and round knob pistol grip stock with a horn inset on the bottom of the grip, leather covered recoil pad and silver initial oval inscribed B.W.B." Accompanying the shotgun is a hand written letter from a Howard Rives dated 3/25/90 stating that the shotgun once belonged to a Bernard Baruch, who he refers to as a "great American". Length of pull is 15". Drop at comb 1 1/2" and drop at heel 2 1/2" The shotgun is complete with a leather covered wooden case with "B.W.B." embossed on the lid and a green, white, green strip painted around the center. The case has brass cover protectors, leather handle and two leather straps. The lining is green felt, there is a canvas sleeve for the barrels and stock, two nickel snap caps and a nickel oiler marked "LANG / LONDON" on the lid.

Condition: Very fine. The barrels retain 60% thin original blue finish with areas turning smooth gray and plum. There is minor pitting on the bottom of the barrels under and along the outer edges of the forearm. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina. All of the original gold inlay remains. The forearm is good exhibiting some moderate wear to the otherwise crisp checkering and a few minor dents and dings. The stock has been freshened with a coat of varnish some time ago and remains fine with almost all of the varnish remaining and a few scattered minor dents, dings and scratches, with crisp checkering. The engraving is crisp. Mechanically fine. The case is very good overall with a few minor scuffs and edge wear ion the exterior, a frayed edge, a few small holes, a small tear in the lining, otherwise minimal wear.
